Working Conditions

  • There is a requirement for significant overtime, including weekend work.
  • There is overnight travel required (up to six consecutive weeks).
  • There is a risk of health or safety hazards and accidents.
  • There is exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise and vibration.
  • There is also exposure to extreme cold and heat and all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift and carry survey gear weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods sitting in confined spaces

Overall Position Mandate: The overall goal is to significantly contribute to the ongoing success of Leading Edge Geomatics by conducting efficient Aerial surveys that provide highly accurate and Quality data that will meet all specs and timelines designated by the client.This includes conducting operations in a manner that emphasizes quality, data integrity and strict adherence to the company’s “best practices/procedures” processes and quality checks.Key Position Objectives:

The overall goal is to collect the highest quality, most complete and accurate Sensor data at all times; ensuring client expectations are consistently met and/or exceeded. This will be achieved by:

Survey Data Collection Skills

  • Effectively monitoring sensor parameters through mission software and ensuring project specs are met.
  • Ensuring sensors are prepared and working before each mission, cleaning lenses and ensuring cable connections are checked and ground power start.
  • Ensuring that all equipment is securely tied down or stored properly in the aircraft before take-off.
  • Being thoroughly familiarized with the project areas to be surveyed, identifying problem areas prior to departure, ie: airports within collection area.
  • Being familiar with mission software to ensure that projects are properly setup and configured with the appropriate settings and to be able to troubleshoot errors.
  • Being familiar with the sensors and associated hardware to better understand errors and being able to properly troubleshoot them in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Quickly and effectively troubleshooting equipment or software problems.
  • Taking comprehensive, detailed and accurate field notes about all procedures used.
  • Having good planning and organizational skills and an ability to make good decisions.
  • Having good verbal communication skills when dealing with Ops or outside agencies when troubleshooting equipment.

Data Management

  • The overall goal is to log and handle the data in a manner that will allow the transition from collection to processing with minimal delay. This will be achieved by:
  • Accurately inputting data into Quickbase, Mission logs and OPs Tracker.
  • Keeping an organized data structure by saving/logging data into correct folders for ease of finding.
  • Thoroughly and completely documenting surveys, identifying potential sources of errors and making recommendations to prevent problems from occurring in the future.

Quality Control

  • The overall goal is to ensure that data and results of the highest accuracy, integrity and quality are delivered to clients on a consistent, ongoing basis, thus ensuring repeat business and referrals.
  • This will be achieved by:
  • Consistently following Leading Edge Geomatics “best practices” processes and workflows to ensure the highest levels of data integrity, accuracy and quality.
  • Scrupulously following all steps in Quality Control checks and Quick Base, documenting project status in Quick Base daily.
  • Scrupulously following company procedures to copy and archive data at all time.

Safety

The overall goal is to ensure that all work is performed in compliance with Transport Canada’s safe work practices and guidelines and that workers receive adequate training to protect their health and safety.  The objective is to strive to be 100% accident and flying infraction free.

This will be achieved by:

  • Making flight safety a key priority at all times by discussing situations with the PRM and Chief Pilot regarding flights when there are concerns about weather conditions or aircraft safety when Operations Coordinators are not available.
  • Promptly and thoroughly documenting the cause of any accidents or near misses. And reporting this to the Operations Coordinators.
  • Identifying potential hazards and risks and mitigating their potential impact with appropriate preventative measures.
  • Follow all Laser Safety guidelines to ensure safe operation of the laser equipment installed in the aircraft.
  • Ensuring no unauthorized equipment or modifications are added to the aircraft without being expressly authorized by the President of Leading Edge Geomatics.
  • Any safety issues identified need to be reported to the Operations Coordinators or Director of Operations and put into the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Additional Duties:

  • Effectively troubleshooting equipment problems.
  • Regularly reading best practice documents and manuals.
  • Making process improvement suggestions and contributing to best practice documents.
  • Communicating with the Positioning, LIDAR, and photogrammetry teams as required.
  • Additional duties as required.

Working Conditions:

  • There is a requirement for significant overtime, including weekend work.
  • On call work, weather dependent
  • There is extensive overnight travel required up to 6 weeks (or more) at a time.
  • There is a risk of health or safety hazards and accidents
  • There is exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise and vibration
  • Must have the ability to lift heavy camera cases of 45-65 pounds.
  • Working in tight spaces in a small plane;  Must not be claustrophobic or afraid of flying.

Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to achieve each of the key objectives outlined above.  The requirements that follow are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to achieve these objectives.
  • Must be able to fly in an airplane for extended periods.  Strong computer skills, ability to change TCP/IP address, setting up networks. A strong working knowledge of remote sensing software such as Global Mapper, Google Earth is considered an asset.
